First Draft of Chapter 3, 200800851 Chanil Kim

Like a Rubber Ball

When I was a kid, I used to play with a rubber ball. Bouncing the ball everywhere, I ran around the front yard of my old house. I think that the most exciting part of playing with a rubber ball was that it was hard to know which way it would bounce back. Like this kind of rubber balls, one of my friends, Hee Dong, is just like a rubber ball; people around him, including me, cannot expect what he is thinking about and going to do.

First, he looks somewhat exotic with big nose and eyes. He also has very thick and obvious double eyelids which make him seem much more exotic. I would say that he is definitely handsome and even tall, so he really seems to be a sort of model from a foreign country.

Actually, I guess that his appearance is closely related with what he is up to now. He was a student and seemed to be living as normal college life as others did. However, he suddenly announced that he wanted to be an actor! All of his friends were shocked at the unexpected news as well as his parents who just wanted him to keep studying in the university and get a good paying job. Although his parents are still persuading him to stop preparing for being an actor, he said that he was secretly going to a sort of acting school to practice. Fortunately, he already got an opportunity to play a minor role in a soap opera called "I miss you". Considering that he just started to practice, it was a great achievement showing how fast he was improving himself.

"Now, I really want to live my own life, not the way my parents want but the way I really am," he said when we recently met. It was not the first time he bounced in an unexpected way, though. By the time he went on to the high school, he said to his parents that he wanted to be a baseball player; he really loved playing baseball and was pretty good at it. He thought of going on to a high school that had a baseball team, but his parents said no. As my friend kept saying that he was supposed to go to the high school and become a baseball athlete, his father torn all his baseball gloves into small pieces, which finally made my friend give up his first-ever dream. I think that since this incident, he has been obsessed with the idea that he was not living the way he actually was.

To be honest, I am still not sure that being an actor is the way he actually is. He is very curious guy getting easily interested in new things, so it seems to me that he just wants to try all of them. Nonetheless, he reminds me of the fact we should follow our own will and do what we want to do most. Whichever way he is going to bounce, I will come with him as one of his friends to support whatever he does.

  1. 1. Hee dong must look like a foreign model just out of a magazine.

    2. He has a prominent nose and big eyes with clear double eyelids. Also, he is handsome and tall.

    3. (1) A model from another country.
    (2) He's been prepareing to become an actor.
    (3) Most people around him worry because he have changed the way of his life suddenly.

    4. I want to know what exactly the rubber ball means. How big is it? It is as small as ping pong ball? or as big as soccer ball? If the ball is big, it is not hard to predict the way it bounces, otherwise, your writing completely makes sense.

    5. Becaus they are really close to each other. And Hee dong is a kind of person who get out of the normal life course and has lots of interesting stories with himself.

    6. Since he is a professional actor, I want to hear from him what is the most difficult thing to be an actor. How could he got a role so quickly among many other good-looking guys.

  3. Here is my final draft of chapter 3.

    Like a Rubber Ball
When I was a kid, I used to play with a rubber ball. Bouncing the ball everywhere, I ran around the front yard of my old house. Like this kind of balls, one of my friends, Hee Dong, is just like a rubber ball; people who know him, including me, cannot expect what he is thinking about and going to do.
He is very outgoing, friendly and a kind of person who makes everyone around him feel hilarious. Most importantly, he is considerably optimistic about what he is supposed to do; he tends to try something challenging in addition to just unexpected things. In terms of his appearance, he looks somewhat exotic with big nose and eyes. He also has very thick and clear double eyelids which make him seem much more exotic. I would say that he is definitely handsome and even tall, so he really seems to be a sort of model from any European country.
Actually, I guess that both his personality and appearance are closely related with what he is up to now. He was a student and seemed to be living as normal college life as others did. However, he suddenly announced that he wanted to be an actor! All of his friends were shocked at the unexpected news as well as his parents who just wanted him to keep studying in the university and get a good paying job. Nonetheless, he reminds me of the simple fact that we should follow our own will and do what we want to do most. He also makes me wonder if I could be brave enough to give up everything that I have achieved and just to seek something my parents do not want me to do. Whichever way he is going to bounce, I will come with him as one of his friends to support whatever he does.
